Many so called “gurus” profess that it is easy to make a successful website very quickly. Unfortunately I have to burst their bubble because it is not true at all, it is very difficult and takes a long time to make website with a lot of traffic and also one that generates any kind of money at all.  Now don’t take me wrong it is not difficult to do, as in mentally challenging, more difficult as in attention to details, and maintain persistence.

The topic of this Blog post is, how far can you get before you need an outsourcer to help you maintain your blog.  Let’s start off what is outsourcing?

Outsourcing is when you get other people to do work that would usually do yourself. For example what I have done in the past when I wanted to have ten articles written. I would outsource them to a freelance website such freelancer or Elance or even Odesk. It could be a one off deal and there would be no need to employ that freelance worker any further.

It may sound easy but it is not. There are a lot of pitfalls as well. The quality of freelance worker varies greatly and in more cases then not when you post a project or ad you will be swamped by bids from various freelancers from around the globe, all with perfect resumes.  To sort the “ Wheat from the Chaff” is quite a task. Till you find the worker that actually matches their perfect resume will take quite some time and money.

There are quite a few advantages of outsourcing work in the early stages of a website building process:

  • Your website will grow more quickly and you will be able to earn money faster
  • In the meantime you can build other projects
  • You can give away jobs that are not your fortitude and you will feel less stressful
  • Also in some cases I even learned something new from a good freelance worker

Can one create a successful WordPress blog without outsourcing? My answer is yes it just takes more time to do everything yourself.  The hardest part is figuring out what to do. The actual setting up of the site is no problem. The hard part is maintaining the fresh content and the promotion of the site that is the hardest part.  Time to make a site successful  might be as high as 1 to 4 years during this time you might not be earning any money at all or only very little.

At  what time is the right time to outsource for your website, I think that as soon as the website starts to earn some money you can reinvest the earnings into the site and keeping growing from there.  In any case I would start slowly with outsourcing, as I stated earlier, it is a science trying to find a good freelancer among the many bad ones. Maybe to test the waters just start out with article outsourcing and  go from there.  Once you feel more comfortable dealing with freelancers you can then  have them complete more complicated tasks for you.
